Quality interior painting is more about preparation and application discipline than about the paint itself. We do not use builder-grade paint unless you specifically request it for budget reasons.

Every repaint gets two finish coats. One coat is for fresh-build new construction, not repaints. And before any finish coat goes on, the walls get the prep work that determines whether the paint lasts: patching, sanding, caulking, and priming. It is slower than spraying a coat over whatever is there, and it is the entire reason the work still looks right years out.

Surface preparation (the part most contractors shortcut): clean walls of dust, cobwebs, and grease. Patch nail holes, dings, and small drywall damage. Sand patches smooth. Caulk gaps between trim and walls. Spot-prime patches and any stained or repaired areas.

Masking and protection: drop cloths on every floor surface. Plastic over furniture. Painters tape on every adjacent surface that won’t get painted. Door hardware removed or bagged.

Application discipline: cut in corners with brush before rolling. Roll wet-edge to wet-edge to avoid lap marks. Two coats on every wall.

Cleanup: remove all masking, vacuum any debris, return furniture to position, walk-through with the homeowner before payment.

Drywall and texture matching: the part of a repaint that goes wrong most often is not the paint, it is the wall under it. Most Riverside-area walls carry a sprayed texture, knockdown, orange peel, or the heavier splatter coats on older homes, and a smooth patch in the middle of a textured wall will telegraph through two coats of paint no matter how good the color is. We re-texture patches to match the surrounding wall, feather the edges, and prime the repair before the finish coats so it does not flash.

Dry time and the Inland Empire heat: in peak summer, surface temperatures on a sunlit interior wall and the low humidity can pull moisture out of latex paint faster than the manufacturer intends, which can flash-set the surface and cause lap marks if a crew is not keeping a wet edge. We paint the hottest rooms earlier in the day, keep the space ventilated and shaded, and respect the recoat window on the can rather than rushing the second coat. Pushing recoat too fast in dry heat is a common cause of the peeling that shows up a year later, and it is entirely avoidable with disciplined scheduling.

Cabinet refinishing is one of the highest-impact interior projects per dollar. A cabinet refinish on a kitchen with sound boxes can transform the entire space for a fraction of what full cabinet replacement costs. The work: degrease, sand, prime with a bonding primer, two coats of cabinet-grade paint (typically a high-build acrylic or alkyd), reinstall hardware. One to two weeks per kitchen depending on size.

The failures we build around: peeling means paint went over a dirty, glossy, or chalky surface that was never cleaned, deglossed, or primed. Flashing, where patched spots show through as dull or shiny areas, means the repairs were not spot-primed. Picture-framing, a visible border where the brushed cut-in meets the rolled field, means the cut lines dried before the roller reached them. Bleed-through means a stain-blocking primer was skipped. We handle all four the same way: clean, degloss, patch, and prime before a finish coat ever goes on.

What it costs: the price of an interior repaint follows the prep each surface needs, the paint grade you choose, and the scope, a single room is a very different job from a whole house with trim, doors, and casings.
