Riverside Siding Installation

Siding does the unglamorous work of keeping water and intense Inland Empire sun out of your home’s walls. When it fails, the failure spreads to the framing behind it. Most Riverside-area homes have stucco, but fiber cement, engineered wood, and vinyl siding are all common on newer construction and on additions. BPP Construction installs and repairs all of them, with proper flashing and weather barrier integration.

The Inland Empire is a hard place on an exterior wall. Summer surface temperatures on a south or west elevation climb well past what the air thermometer reads, and the UV load runs year-round. That heat-and-sun cycle is what fades budget vinyl, chalks cheap paint, and works fasteners loose over time. It also means a siding choice that performs in a coastal or mountain climate does not automatically perform here.

After 35 years residing homes across Riverside County, Ben specs the material and the install details to the exposure each wall actually faces, because the west wall and the shaded north wall of the same house are not living the same life.

What We Install and How

Fiber cement (James Hardie): 40-50 year lifespan, handles UV, fire-resistant, the strongest performer in our climate. The premium choice.

Engineered wood (LP SmartSide): 30-40 year lifespan, lower cost than fiber cement, looks like real wood, handles termites and fungal decay better than traditional wood.

Vinyl: 25-40 year lifespan, lowest cost, broad style range. Quality brands (Bufftech, ActiveYards) handle UV; budget brands fade and crack within 12-18 years.

Stucco repair and refresh: most Riverside homes have stucco. We patch hairline cracks, do full-section repairs, and apply elastomeric coating systems that extend life 10-15 years on existing stucco.

Weather-resistive barrier: housewrap (Tyvek, Typar) installed correctly with proper laps and tape, not just laid behind the existing rot.

Flashing at every penetration: windows, doors, vents, hose bibs, and electrical penetrations all flashed with the right material in the right sequence.

Proper expansion gaps: fiber cement requires a 1/8″ gap at windows and doors; vinyl requires 1/4″ with full-length expansion in the panel ends. Skipped on cheap installs.

Correct fastener pattern: nail spacing per manufacturer spec, not “looks about right.” Wind exposure rating matters in Riverside summer storms.

Color matching for repairs: we test paint matches in natural light at multiple times of day before applying. The patch should disappear into the wall.

Our Process

Resetting the Clock on Your Exterior

01

Exposure Assessment

We walk every elevation, note which walls take the afternoon sun, check for soft sheathing and failed flashing, and match material recommendations to the exposure and your budget. You get a detailed written quote before anything is ordered.

02

Tear-Off, Barrier & Flashing

Old siding comes off completely, the underlying surface is inspected, and any damaged sheathing is repaired. New housewrap goes on top to bottom with proper laps and tape, and every penetration is re-flashed in sequence. Disposal of old material included.

03

Siding, Finish & Walk-Through

Panels go on with manufacturer-spec fastener patterns and expansion gaps, trim and caulk finish the edges, and repairs get color-matched paint tested in natural light. We walk the finished walls with you before final payment.

Repair or Re-Side

An Honest Answer on Scope

Not every siding problem is a whole-house job, and we will not sell you one when it is not. A partial replacement makes sense when the damage is contained, the rest of the wall is sound, and the existing material can still be matched. We pull the failed section, inspect and repair the sheathing and any framing behind it, integrate the new weather barrier into the old with proper laps, and feather the new siding and finish into the surrounding wall so the repair is not a billboard. The honest limit is texture and color: past roughly 30 percent of a wall plane, a patch starts to read no matter how careful the match, and a full wall or full re-side becomes the better value.

A full re-side is the call when the material is at the end of its service life, when several walls are failing at once, when prior repairs have left a patchwork, or when you are changing the look of the house as part of a remodel. The advantage of a full re-side is that we get the whole wall open: new housewrap top to bottom, every penetration re-flashed in sequence, and any soft sheathing replaced before the new siding goes on. That is the version of the job that actually resets the clock on your exterior.

Storm damage claims: Riverside has occasional wind events that damage siding. We document storm damage with photos that meet adjuster requirements, work directly with your carrier, and submit supplements for code-required upgrades the initial scope misses.

Common Questions

Siding FAQs

How much does new siding cost in Riverside?
It depends on the material and the scope. Vinyl is the value option, engineered wood sits in the middle, and fiber cement is the premium choice; stucco repair and full re-stucco are quoted by extent. We give you a detailed written quote after measuring the actual walls, so you know the exact cost before work begins. Call (909) 227-4193 for a free quote.
How long does fiber cement siding last in Southern CA?
40-50 years for the panels. Paint typically needs refresh at year 12-18 even with quality factory finish. Total cost-of-ownership is among the lowest of any siding option.
What’s best for Riverside homes, fiber cement or stucco?
Both work. Stucco is traditional and matches the regional aesthetic; fiber cement gives a more modern look and slightly better performance. Quality install matters more than material choice.
Can you repair siding without replacing the whole wall?
Yes for limited damage (under 30% of a wall plane). Beyond that, partial repairs become noticeable in color and texture, and full replacement is the better-value call.
Do you handle storm damage claims?
Yes. We document damage, write code-compliant scopes, work directly with adjusters, and submit supplements for items the initial scope missed. No upfront cost.
How long does a re-side project take?
Typical single-story 1,800 sq ft home: 5-9 working days. Two-story homes or complex elevations: 8-14 days. Stucco work cures over additional days.
Do you remove the old siding?
Yes, full removal of old siding, inspection of the underlying surface, repair of any damaged sheathing, then re-side. Disposal of old material included.
Which siding holds up best to Inland Empire heat and UV?
Fiber cement (James Hardie) is the strongest performer in our climate. It does not chalk or warp under the sun the way budget vinyl does, it is fire-resistant, which matters on the wildland-adjacent edges of the county, and the panels carry a 40-to-50-year service life. Engineered wood (LP SmartSide) is the next step down on cost and handles the heat well while giving a true wood look. Vinyl can work here if you stay with quality brands rated for high UV; the cheap lines fade and grow brittle within 12 to 18 years of full Inland Empire sun. For stucco homes, an elastomeric coating system reflects heat and bridges hairline cracking, adding 10 to 15 years to an existing wall. We match the material to the wall’s exposure and your budget during the on-site visit.
What goes on behind the siding, and why does it matter?
The part you never see is the part that actually keeps your walls dry. Behind quality siding sits a weather-resistive barrier, a housewrap like Tyvek or Typar, installed with the laps and tape running the right way so water sheds down and out instead of getting trapped against the sheathing. Every penetration, every window, door, vent, hose bib, and electrical box, gets flashed in the correct sequence with the right material so wind-driven rain cannot work its way in at the edges. Skipping or reversing those laps is the single most common reason a re-side fails early, and it is invisible once the siding is up. We install the barrier and flashing to spec, not as an afterthought behind the new panels, because that detail is what protects the framing for the life of the wall.
